The Blight Authority process is aimed to remove vacant and abandoned structures, trash and debris, and dead trees in overgrown lots. Its’ process is to clear blocks of blight to revitalize the neighborhood by hiring local residents and clearing the brush and garbage so that abandoned structures are visibly from the street and neighboring occupied homes.
For example, while clearing the brush from the 14 blocks in Brightmoor, the Blight Authority found 300 tires, tons of garbage and a dead body. The brush, along these streets, was so dense that a corpse could be easily hidden there.
The Blight Authority also identifies structures that can be candidates for deconstruction. Using an approach similar to the way Putle Homes builds large numbers of homes fast, the Blight Authority has reduced demolition costs by thousands of dollars a property.
